(The Post News)- Western Cape police have launched a manhunt for an unidentified man linked to a security scare at a Bellville school. A reward of up to R50 000 is being offered for information that leads to his detention and conviction.
Detectives from the Western Cape Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes Unit are appealing to the public for assistance as part of the investigation. An enquiry docket has been opened, and an identikit of the person of interest has been circulated.
According to police reports, the individual pictured in the identikit entered a Bellville educational institution on Friday, 20 June 2025, at around 15:00, reportedly armed and acting with malicious intent. He approached an aftercare teacher and inquired about the whereabouts of a learner, who is the child of a police officer.
Police spokesperson Joseph Swaartbooi confirmed that the learner had already been collected by the time the suspect arrived.
“It is imperative that the person be traced and brought in for questioning. A reward of up to R50 000 is offered for any information on the whereabouts of the person of interest,” said Swaartbooi.
Members of the public with information are urged to contact Detective Constable Mawande Mqhwayi on 073 734 2611. Alternatively, tip-offs can be submitted anonymously via the MySAPS mobile application.
