(The Post News)- President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed Buti Manamela as the new Minister of Higher Education and Training, replacing Nobuhle Nkabane.
Nkabane has been embroiled in controversy over the Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETA) board appointments.
Political parties and the South African Students Congress (SASCO) had been calling for her removal following allegations of irregular SETA board appointments and misleading Parliament.
Nkabane’s dismissal comes just days after she again failed to appear before the higher education parliamentary committee. She was scheduled to appear on Tuesday to explain the SETA board appointment process.
In her statement, Nkabane thanked President Ramaphosa for the opportunity to serve as Minister of Higher Education and Training.
She said it had been a privilege to lead such an important portfolio and affirmed her continued commitment to serving South Africans and advancing the country.
Former KwaZulu-Natal Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube has been appointed as the new Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training.
