(The Post News)– The Democratic Alliance (DA) National Spokesperson and Member of Parliament, Karabo Khakhau, has described Minister of Higher Education Nobuhle Nkabane’s dismissal as a “stunning blow” to the African National Congress (ANC) cadre corruption.
Khakhau added that they are committed to rescuing South Africa and promised to continue fighting tirelessly in tackling issues related to corruption within government. She also said that this is a great moment for all, and as the DA, they have gained the ability to win more battles.
The DA aims to continue fighting corruption and wrongdoing at every turn and return faith to the Government of National Unity (GUN). According to Khakhau, the departure of one ANC minister from the cabinet amid storm clouds of falsehoods, deception, cadre deployment, corruption, and a Hawks inquiry is a first step toward restoring faith in the GNU’s commitment to fighting corruption.
Moreover, Khakhau highlighted that there is more rot within the ANC and demanded President Cyril Ramaphosa take action against corrupt and nefarious people, and said the firing of Nkabane is the first step for him. Meanwhile, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) noted Manamela’s appointment but described the naming of the former Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Nomusa Dube-Ncube, as a lack of accountability or reform by the President.
The EFF branded Dube-Ncube as a controversial figure that was irregularly appointed to a SETA board by Nkabane, adding that her past political roles showcase that she has long been embedded in ANC patronage networks. The party also said that Dube-Ncube’s appointment is not based on competence but loyalty as another member of the ANC.
According to the Presidency, Ramaphosa removed Nkabane from the role of Minister of Higher Education and Training in terms of Section 91 (2) of the Constitution. Nkabane was replaced by Buti Manamela, who has been serving as Deputy Minister, and Dr. Nomusa Dube-Ncube as his deputy.
