(The Post News)- Four suspects have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of South African musician and businessman Oupa John Sefoka, popularly known as DJ Sumbody, in 2022.
DJ Sumbody was a respected figure in the South African music scene and a successful entrepreneur, admired for his contributions to the industry.
The incident, which occurred in Woodmead in November of that year, tragically claimed two lives and left a third person injured.
The Gauteng Organised Crime Detectives, with support from the SAPS Political Killings Task Team, made the arrests on Monday afternoon, 21 July. The suspects men aged between 45 and 60 include three believed to be hitmen and one allegedly linked to orchestrating the attack.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe confirmed that the weapon believed to have been used in the crime has been recovered and linked to other murder cases.
All four suspects remain in custody and are expected to appear in court soon.
General Fannie Masemola, the National Commissioner of SAPS, praised the collaborative efforts of the investigation teams, describing the breakthrough as a significant step forward.
He said, “Well done to the teams that have been piecing together evidence since November 2022. This is a culmination of hard work and dedication to justice. This is one of those complex cases that required thorough investigation to ensure a strong case before court.”
The charges facing the suspects include murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Authorities hope this development will bring closure to the families affected by the tragedy and provide some measure of justice to the community.
