(The Post News)- In preparation for the 2025–2026 Primeira Liga season, AVS Futebol Clube has confirmed the signing of South African winger Kobamelo Kodisang from Mamelodi Sundowns on a season-long loan. This move significantly expands their attacking options.
The 25-year-old returns to his home country after playing for Braga B and Moreirense in Portugal prior to returning to South Africa in 2023. As AVS attempts to make a name for themselves in Portugal’s top division, Kodisang’s skill and experience on the flanks may prove crucial.
The deal, unveiled on Wednesday, is seen as a strategic move by both clubs. Mamelodi Sundowns, reigning DStv Premiership champions, have opted to loan out the dynamic winger to allow him more game time and exposure in Europe.
While AVS gains a proven talent eager to reignite his European journey. Kodisang, known for his pace, creativity, and direct style of play, have not opened up about the move.
AVS Futebol, one of the more ambitious clubs in Portuguese football, have been active in the transfer market this summer. The signing of Kodisang is expected to boost their attacking depth and offer tactical flexibility, especially in wide positions.
Club officials praised Kodisang’s work ethic and versatility. “Kobamelo is a player we’ve admired for some time. His technical ability and international experience will bring a new dimension to our squad,” an AVS statement noted.
The winger’s career trajectory has included stints in both African and European football, with a strong youth pedigree from the South African national team system. His return to Portugal is not only a personal milestone, but also reflects the growing trend of South African talent being re-integrated into European leagues. Kodisang is expected to join up with AVS for pre-season training immediately and could make his debut when the Primeira Liga kicks off in August.
