(The Post News)- Forensic ballistics has tied the murder weapon used in the assassination of DJ Sumbody to a growing number of targeted killings, including that of popular Soweto DJ Hector “DJ Vintos” Buthelezi and businessman Don Tindleni.
The murders connected to the weapon include the March 2022 shooting of DJ Vintos, who was killed outside a nightclub in Orlando East, Soweto. In March 2023, businessman Don Tindleni was fatally shot while driving his BMW on the N1 highway near the N17 off-ramp. Most recently, in April 2024, Transnet engineer Armand Swart was killed with what is believed to be the same weapon, in what police suspect was a case of mistaken identity.
Police say all four murders are now part of a broader investigation into interlinked contract killings, especially since additional weapons were seized during the arrest of Katiso Molefe and other suspects. These firearms, including the AK-47 found in DJ Sumbody’s murder case, are reportedly being examined for links to as many as 10 other high-profile murders.
“We anticipate further arrests as the investigations continue,” Brigadier Mathe said.
Mathe also confirmed that Katiso Molefe and three other suspected hitmen have now been formally charged with the murders of DJ Vintos and Don Tindleni.
The bail hearing for Molefe has been postponed to August 6, while his co-accused have opted not to seek bail. The court case itself has been adjourned to September 18 to allow for further evidence gathering.
