(The Post News)– Magistrate Anneline Africa has denied bail to 31-year-old Tiffany Meek, who stands accused of killing her son, 11-year-old Jayden-Lee Meek, at the Roodepoort Magistrates Court.
In her bail judgment, Magistrate Africa highlighted multiple inconsistencies in Meek’s account, noting that the accused had been dishonest. These issues ultimately contributed to the court’s decision to deny bail.
Meek faces charges of murder and defeating and obstructing the ends of justice. Jayden-Lee was found dead in May outside the family’s home in Fleurhof, a day after he had been reported missing.
Meek’s attorney, Noven Naidoo, argued that she was not a flight risk, emphasizing that she did not flee even after becoming aware she was a suspect. Naidoo noted that Meek had cooperated with authorities prior to her arrest.
Outside the court, members of the community reacted positively to the bail ruling. Many expressed satisfaction with the decision, calling it a step toward justice for Jayden.
“We are very pleased with it. It’s a small victory in the pursuit of justice for Jayden. We are very happy with the outcome of the bail application,” one resident said. Another resident issued a stern warning to those who harm children. “For the perpetrators of kids out there, watch your back—the SAPS is on your back.”
Addressing the media, National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwana praised the investigating officer. She said that with the evidence now on the docket, they are sure that there are possibilities of a successful prosecution.
If convicted, Meek could face life imprisonment. The trial is scheduled to resume on 17 September 2025.
