(The Post News)- The Royal Bahamas Police Force confirmed that a 35-year-old South African male crew member reportedly stabbed his 28-year-old female South African colleague multiple times before jumping overboard to his death.
The incident occurred late on Thursday night, 24 July, aboard the Icon of the Seas, a Royal Caribbean cruise ship near San Salvador Island in the Bahamas. The attack was reportedly sparked by a “personal dispute” between the two crew members.
Following the stabbing, the man attempted to flee by jumping into the ocean. Rescue teams recovered his body about 30 to 45 minutes later, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman sustained serious stab wounds to her upper body but was stabilized by the ship’s medical team. She is reportedly receiving treatment at a hospital in Miami.
It has been reported that the two were dating, though this has not been confirmed by the cruise company or the police. In a statement to CBS News on Friday, Royal Caribbean said, “We extend our condolences to the crew member’s family and loved ones. To respect their privacy, we have no additional details to share.”
This tragic incident comes less than a month after another South African stewardess was reportedly raped and murdered by her colleague while working on a different Bahamas cruise ship.
These Bahamas cruise ship stabbings raise serious concerns about female crew safety in these luxury vessels.
