(The Post News)- officials are in Malaysia to help Cambodia and Thailand talk about peace. These two countries started discussions on Monday to try and stop their fighting. The US wants this conflict to end soon.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that American officials are there to help. President Donald Trump and Secretary Rubio are also talking to leaders from both Cambodia and Thailand. They are watching the situation closely.
The fighting between Thailand and Cambodia got worse after a Cambodian soldier died in May. This caused problems between the two countries, and troops were sent to the border. This fighting is the worst in over ten years.
More than 30 people have died, including 13 regular people in Thailand and 8 in Cambodia. Also, over 200,000 people have had to leave their homes near the border.
President Trump said that he believes both Thailand and Cambodia want to stop fighting. He told their leaders that the US would not make trade deals with them unless they ended the conflict. This shows how much the US wants peace in the area.
