Gqeberha regional court prosecutor Tracy Brown was fatally shot outside her home
(The Post News)- On Thursday afternoon in Gqeberha, regional court prosecutor Tracy Brown was fatally shot outside her home shortly after returning from work.
Police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg reported that Brown had just arrived at her residence in Young Park around 3:30 p.m. and was sitting inside her Toyota Etios when four masked men in a white Volkswagen Polo exited the vehicle and opened fire. Brown was rushed to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds but tragically died on arrival. The motive and suspects remain unknown as the investigation continues.
This incident is the latest in a disturbing pattern of violence targeting court officials in the region. Earlier this year, 30-year-old Eastern Cape prosecutor Elona Sombulula was similarly shot and killed near his home in Mthatha on April 29.
She called for a thorough review and strengthening of protection measures, emphasizing the need for better coordination between security agencies. “These protections must be reinforced and more effectively coordinated with other security cluster partners to ensure our prosecutors can perform their duties without fearing for their lives.”
Kubayi urged the public to come forward with any information that could assist law enforcement in the investigation and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to bringing perpetrators to justice. “Those who target our justice officials with violence will face the full force of the law,” she stated.
