(The Post News)- During the night of August 5, Russian troops carried out an aerial assault on Ukraine, deploying kamikaze drones along with a ballistic missile. Ukraine’s Air Force stated that the majority of these threats were shot down before reaching their targets.
Ukraine’s Air Force reported that, on the night of August 5, Russian forces launched 46 Shahed-type attack drones and decoys from Kursk, Bryansk, Oryol, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk, along with an Iskander-M ballistic missile from the Bryansk region.
The attack was repelled by Ukraine’s Air Force using fighter jets, air defense missile systems, electronic warfare units, drone teams, and mobile fire groups.
According to preliminary reports, Ukrainian air defenses downed or disabled 29 Shahed drones and decoy UAVs across the country’s northern and eastern regions.
Shortly before midnight, Russian drones were spotted approaching from several directions, with the primary assault targeting the city of Lozova in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region.
Lozova’s mayor, Serhii Zelenskyy, described the assault as the city’s heaviest Russian attack so far. The strike caused damage to vital infrastructure, residential buildings, and private homes. Several civilians were injured, including two children.
