While the cause of her death has not been publicly disclosed, the funeral is expected to draw prominent figures from government, politics, and entertainment.
Born in Hammanskraal, Gauteng, and raised in Giyani, Limpopo, Dr. Pert excelled both academically and athletically from a young age. At just 16, she represented South Africa in basketball.
The loss of her father during high school became a turning point, inspiring her to pursue medicine. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University before completing her internship and community service in Limpopo. She later specialized in aesthetic medicine in Turkey.
Among the dignitaries expected to attend are Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Lamola, Minister of Electricity Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula, Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi, MEC for Health Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko, MMC for Roads and Transport Tlangi Mogale, and the Chairperson of the Gauteng Health Committee.
Her clients have remembered her as a compassionate doctor who understood their needs and helped them feel confident. Reality TV personality Nonkanyiso Conco, popularly known as LaConco, described her as stylish and confident, noting that Dr. Pert played a significant role in boosting her self-esteem.
In his tribute, Fikile Mbalula described Dr. Mathibe as a healer who used her surgical skills to uplift others, called her life a “symbol of excellence,” and called her a gift from God to remind people of their beauty. On behalf of the ANC, Mbalula extended condolences to her husband, ANC Tshwane Regional Secretary George Matjila, as well as to the Mathibe, Matjila, and Maswanganyi families.
Friends have remembered her as fearless, a woman unafraid to take risks and break barriers in her profession. Among those who paid their respects was Metro FM presenter Thami Ngubeni, who described Dr. Pertunia Mathibe as someone who honored God’s calling by using her hands to transform and uplift the lives of women.
