(The Post News)- During a Wednesday media briefing on the NEC meeting outcomes, ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula stated that members are now prohibited from chanting “Kill the Boer.”
He made it clear that although the ANC once sang the song, its members are now strictly forbidden from chanting “Kill the Boer,” calling the decision straightforward.
He argued that regardless of the Constitutional Court’s ruling, there is no justification for singing “Kill the Boer” in a democratic society.
Originally a protest anthem from the anti-apartheid era targeting the Afrikaner-led regime, the song remains in use by the EFF. Despite AfriForum’s claims that it promotes violence and hatred against Afrikaners, South African courts, including the Equality Court, have found that it does not meet the legal threshold for hate speech.
Mbalula explained that the song was originally sung during the struggle when MK fighters entered South Africa from countries like Angola and faced attacks from Boer commandos. It became a rallying cry in the fight against those forces.
Mbalula stated that the ANC has taken sufficient steps to counter what he described as false white genocide allegations. He criticized individuals spreading these claims in the United States and held the DA responsible for triggering Trump’s tariffs and sanctions threats toward ANC leaders.
He condemned the DA for prioritizing their own agenda over the country’s well-being, claiming they misled Trump during their US visit. This, he said, led to economic harm and unfairly shifted the blame onto the ANC.
