(The Post News)- A police officer who shot and killed his wife was burnt by the community of Limpopo right after the incident, it is alleged that the wife was a police sergeant.
Reports indicated that some community’s member alerted Hlanganani police about the two murder incidents that happened at Nkuna Kraal Mall, in Nkuzana village on Saturday midday. The couple had been separated for about seven months, but tensions between them had not subsided.
According to Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, preliminary investigations indicates that the female sergeant went out with two adults and her six-year-old child, when her husband police officer approached her. “It is alleged that the argument between them got heated up, resulting in the husband taking his service firearm and shooting the victim,” he said.
Ledwaba added that when the suspect tried to run to his vehicle in attempt to flee the scene, “The community members that observed the entire incident chased and assaulted him, setting him ablaze next to his car.” The vehicle was also set on fire and destroyed beyond recognition. Both the female officer and her husband died at the scene.
Murder charges were opened for both victims, the woman, a sergeant attached to Beit Bridge, and the man, a sergeant from the Thohoyandou K9 Unit.
