(The Post News)- Ahead of the controversial upcoming National Convention under the National Dialogue process, President Cyril Ramaphosa urges full participation of women across all sectors of society.
The first National Convention of the National Dialogue will be held on August 15, 2025, in Pretoria. In the presidency weekly newsletter, Ramaphosa announced that organisations from across South Africa will convene on Friday to launch the National Dialogue process, intended to unite citizens around solutions to the country’s pressing challenges.
Ramaphosa emphasizes that the upcoming National Dialogue is obligated to serve as a platform for “women to raise their voices,” since it is going to take place on Women’s month.
In addition, Ramaphosa says, “Given the history of women’s struggles in our country, it is to be expected that at this critical moment in our history, women will once again come to the fore and participate actively in the National Dialogue process.” The statement emphasises that when the National Dialogue was first announced, it was described as a platform to unite individuals and organisations from all sectors of society in seeking common ground and fresh solutions to the country’s numerous challenges.
He also highlighted that women make up more than half of our country’s population and they are affected by every political, social, and economic issue, often more severely than men.
“Recognising that the lives of women are bound up with the future of the nation as a whole, we are counting on women’s groups and organisations to mobilise around the National Dialogue process,” reads the statement. Ramaphosa stated that the government is collaborating with various stakeholders to guarantee equal representation of women in all structures that support and steer the dialogue.
Ramaphosa said, “To remain true to our objective of giving all sectors of society a voice as we build the South Africa we want, we must ensure that all women are represented.”
