(The Post News)– The Canakkale Wildfire in Turkey in 2025 has forced hundreds of residents to evacuate their homes. The fire has been burning for two days in the northwestern province, creating serious disruption for local communities.
Governor Omer Toraman said seven firefighting planes and six helicopters are on the scene. Teams are working tirelessly to stop the flames from reaching homes. Authorities confirm that residential areas are safe for now.
Agriculture and Forestry Minister Ibrahim Yumaklı reported that fires in Edirne and Hatay are now out. A separate wildfire in Manisa still burns, and teams continue to fight it in difficult conditions.
On Monday, officials closed Canakkale Airport and the Dardanelles Strait. The strait is a key waterway linking the Aegean Sea and the Sea of Marmara. Closures were necessary to protect travelers and prevent accidents.
Fires in the Ezine and Ayvacik districts are mostly under control. However, flames still burn in the city center, near the southern part of the Dardanelles Strait. Firefighters are focusing their efforts in this area to stop the spread.
Officials urge residents to follow official updates. Anyone in high-risk areas should prepare for evacuation. People are also advised to stay away from fire zones so emergency crews can work without obstacles.
The wildfire highlights the growing threat of extreme weather and dry conditions in Turkey. Fire crews remain on high alert as they work to protect lives, homes, and infrastructure.
