(The Post News) – Four men shot dead in a mass shooting at Muizenburg in Cape Town. Allegedly, the incidents involving gangs war happened today around 5am.
According to Western Cape police officials, victims bodies aged between 20 and 37 years old found along side of Mountain road. The motives surrounding the deaths of four men are under still under investigation.
SAPS police spokesperson, Colonel Andrè Traut stated that they have not ruled out the possibility of the murders being gang-related. “The circumstances surrounding the deaths of four men in Overcome Heights, Muizenberg, earlier this morning are under police investigation. Detectives attached to the Anti-Gang Unit are working tirelessly to determine the events that led to the incident.
“At approximately 5.30am, the bodies of four men, aged between 20 and 37, discovered in Mountain Road, each with fatal gunshot wounds. While gangsterism has not been a possible motive, investigators are pursuing all lines of enquiry in an effort to bring those responsible to justice,” said Traut.
Mike Kumalo, chairperson of the Vrygrond Community Development Forum noted that residents in Muizenberg are living in an “abnormal society”, siting that gun violence incidents have been sharply increasing for the past years.
Kumalo said, “Currently we are in the process of establishing a neighbourhood watch to ramp up efforts of community safety. This would require the community to organise its approach but there are challenges. Establishing this will require dialogue between various stakeholders without underscoring one or the other when it comes to keeping our community safe.”
SAPS notes that detectives investigating the Anti-Gang Unit cases are working tirelessly to determine the events that led to the incident.
