(The Post News) – On Sunday, a fire broke out at the Greyhound depot in Jet Park, Boksburg, destroying three buses and a trailer.
Firefighters dispatched from Boksburg, Leon Ferreira, Albertina, and Primrose stations contained the blaze, Ekurhuleni Emergency Management Services (EMS) said.
City of Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) spokesperson William Ntladi added that fire rescue teams from ACSA (Airports Company of South Africa) also lent water tanks and rescuers.
The quick response and collaboration allowed two buses to be saved from the fire and relocated to a secure area. EMS Spokesperson Eric Maloka confirmed that no one was injured during or after the rescue operation. It is unclear if the incident was a result of arson. Maloka said that officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
The news comes after a week of arson reports in Ekuruleni and Johannesburg. In Johannesburg, Soweto, there have been multiple reports of taxis being set alight by angry community members protesting.
Meanwhile, last week in Ekurhuleni, protesters set the Home Affairs building in Germiston on fire. It is reported that the demonstration was linked to evictions in the area.
