(The Post News)– The radio station Kaya 959 has suspended radio personality and DJ Solomuzi “Sol” Phenduka effective immediately. Phenduka will not be on air from tomorrow, August 21, pending the outcome of an ongoing internal process.
The station released a statement confirming Phenduka’s suspension. The station stated that it will adhere to due process but did not provide an explanation for suspending Phenduka.
After the “internal process,” the station will provide updates. In the statement, the station assured stakeholders that the issue is being fairly and sensitively handled. Despite the development, Kaya emphasized its dedication to preserving stability and providing its listeners with top-notch content.
Phenduka joined Kaya on July 1, 2022. He joined Dineo Ranaka as part of a major restructure to improve the station’s ‘959 Breakfast’ breakfast show. Currently, Phenduka hosts the show alongside Sizwe Dhlomo, Nosipho Radebe, and Mpho Maboi.
Prior to working at Kaya, the former Big Brother contestant was known for his work on Metro FM and YFM. Additionally, he is well-known for co-hosting the famous Podcast and Chill with MacGyver ‘MacG’ Mukwevho and the Ghost Lady.
Meanwhile, Phenduka and Mukwevho are being sued by media personality Minnie Dlamini. Dlamini took the pair to equity court, demanding 2.5 million rand for hate speech, harassment based on sex or gender, and unfair discrimination.
The controversy between Dlamini and the Podcast and Chill hosts began after crude remarks were made about Dlamini’s breakup with her ex-boyfriend, Dr. Brian Monaisa. This sparked conversations on social media, prompting Mukwevho to apologize to Dlamini. Mukwevho also invited Dlamini to be a guest on the podcast so they can “squash it” once and for all.
Nevertheless, Dlamini declined the offer and revealed in a long statement that she intended to take legal action in response to Mukwevho’s remarks.
