(The Post News)– Federal prosecutors are actively urging a federal judge to reject Sean “Diddy” Combs’ request to overturn the jury’s verdict or grant him a new trial. They argue that the jury properly convicted Combs on two prostitution-related charges. They stated that no legal grounds exist to disturb the outcome of the trial.
In legal papers filed shortly before midnight on Wednesday, prosecutors claimed that Combs personally orchestrated a series of elaborate sexual encounters. It involved two of his former girlfriends. Between 2008 and 2024, Combs arranged for male sex workers to participate in these events. He often required them to travel across multiple state lines, which directly violated federal law.
Although the jury acquitted Combs in July of the more serious racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking charges. This federal statute prohibits the use of interstate commerce to facilitate prostitution-related activities.
Each of the Mann Act violations carries a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison. Combs’ legal team has argued that he should receive little to no additional prison time. They were citing the relative severity of the charges compared to those for which he was acquitted. However, prosecutors have firmly rejected that argument and are insisting that Combs serve multiple years behind bars for the convictions.
Since his arrest in September at a Manhattan hotel, federal authorities have detained Combs in a Brooklyn jail without bail. Prosecutors continue to oppose any efforts to release him, emphasizing the seriousness of his conduct.
Prosecutors asserted that Combs’ legal team misinterpreted the law when they argued in a late-July filing. They argued that the Mann Act is unconstitutionally vague and infringes upon his rights.
