(The Post News)– Proteas captain Temba Bavuma has been ruled out from today’s second ODI match against Australia. Bavuma sustained a hamstring injury in June at the World Test Championship (WTC).
Captain Bavuma did not experience any discomfort on Tuesday from his recovered hamstring injury. But the Proteas medical team recommends “he be rested for the second match.” Bavuma is going to be available to captain the Proteas on Sunday, when the Proteas take on Australia for the third ODI game. With Bavuma’s absence, Aiden Markram will stand in as captain.
Meanwhile, Bavuma has been severely criticized by Indian fans on X (Twitter). However, his international innings speaks volumes for him. Bavuma has made 65, 66, 36, 56, 58, 82, 20, 106, 40, 31, 8, 66, 78, and 113 runs in his last fifteen international innings. Moreover, the two skippers, Bavuma and Markam, have had fans comparing them. Bavuma proved himself countless times that the Proteas can count on him, and Markam also does the same when given a chance.
The squad keep up with them elected in their shared leadership roles, despite the fans’ reactions. Both the skippers share the captaincy, with Bavuma being the main one for the squad.
