(The Post News)– With just a week to go before the Diamond League Final in Zurich, some of track and field’s biggest names braved the wet conditions in Lausanne on Wednesday for the second-to-last stop of the 2025 season.
The men’s 100m produced another thrilling showdown as Jamaica’s Oblique Seville once again got the better of Olympic champion Noah Lyles. Seville powered through to claim victory in 9.87 seconds, while Lyles was edged into second in a photo finish at 10.02, just ahead of fellow Jamaican Ackeem Blake, who was given the same time. Simbine, still searching for his sharpest form, crossed in fourth with 10.05.
In the women’s 800m, Sekgodiso was right on the heels of Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson when the pacemaker dropped out, and the two broke away from the rest. Hodgkinson surged clear after 600 m and stormed to a dominant win in 1:55.69, breaking a meeting record that had stood for over two decades. Sekgodiso couldn’t hold on longer and finished sixth in 1:58.76. However, all nine athletes in the race impressively dipped under two minutes despite the rain.
Van Dyk, fresh off her Olympic silver medal, threw a best of 58.89 m on her second attempt in the javelin to secure second place. The win went to Adriana Vilago, who launched 62.83 m to top the field.
