(The Post News)– Coco Gauff is not afraid to take big steps when her game needs a lift. Just days before the US Open, the world No. 3 made a sudden coaching change. She is bringing in biomechanics expert Gavin MacMillan to fix a serve that has been troubling her for months.
Gauff admitted the timing might seem risky, but she said she didn’t hesitate. MacMillan has a strong reputation, having helped world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka overcome similar serving struggles. Gauff believes he has the tools to guide her through this critical adjustment.
The American star, who captured her first Grand Slam title at the US Open last year and added another at the French Open earlier this season, has seen her momentum dip in recent weeks. Her serve has been the main culprit, with double faults piling up, 42 in Montreal and 16 more in Cincinnati.
Still, Gauff is confident the move is about long-term progress, not just one tournament. She said she refuses to waste time on habits that aren’t working and is determined to shape her game into what she knows it can become.
