(The Post News)– Tatjana Smith proved once again why she is South Africa’s golden girl of the pool, walking away as the biggest winner at the 2025 South African Sports Awards held at the Sun City Superbowl on Sunday night.
The multiple Olympic champion scooped two of the evening’s most prestigious honours, Sportswoman of the Year and the ultimate prize, Sport Star of the Year. The recognition comes on the back of her stellar performances at the Paris Olympic Games, where she brought home a gold and a silver medal in the breaststroke events.
It wasn’t just Smith who had reason to celebrate. Paralympic star Simone Kruger also claimed double honours, being named both Junior Sport Star of the Year and Sportswoman of the Year with a Disability.
The men’s 4×100 meters relay team took home the Team of the Year award after their brilliant exploits on the track, while Mpumelelo Mhlongo was crowned Sportsman of the Year with a Disability.
Closing the night on a nostalgic note, South African athletics legend Zola Budd-Pieterse was honored with the Steve Tshwete Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing her lasting impact on the sport.
