(The Post News)- Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) signed Nigeria captain Rasheedat Ajibade who had left Atletico Madrid as a free agent, making her the sixth Nigerian footballer to join the French side.
PSG announced on Tuesday, 26 August 2025 that Rasheedat Ajibade (25) signed a contract valid for three years. “PSG is delighted to announce the arrival of Nigerian striker Rasheedat Busayo Ajibade. The club is thrilled she has signed and warmly welcomes her into its women’s squad,” the club said in the statement.
Born in Lagos’ Mushin district in 1999, Ajibade first made her mark at FC Robo Queens, where she won the NFF Young Player of the Year award in 2018. She later moved to Europe, beginning with Avaldsnes IL in Norway before signing for Spanish powerhouse Atlético de Madrid in 2021. Ajibade’s move to Paris follows shortly after her leaving Atlético Madrid, where she spent four and a half years and won both the Copa de la Reina and the Supercopa de España.
Ajibade’s European journey began in 2018 with Norwegian side Avaldsnes, where she scored 12 goals in 39 games. In 2020, she moved to Atlético Madrid, quickly establishing herself as a key player thanks to her versatility and attacking skills.
During the 2024–25 season with Atlético, the forward made 25 appearances, scoring eight goals and providing three assists.
Ajibade will now team up with a fellow Nirerian player Jennifer Echegini, who signed for PSG earlier this year. She also joins a notable list of Nigerians to have represented the French giants, such as Nicole Payne, Austin Jay-Jay Okocha, Godwin Okpara, and Bartholomew Ogbeche.
On the international stage, Ajibade has been enjoying great success. She captained Nigeria’s U-17 team at the 2016 World Cup, she later featured for the U-20s, and eventually went into the senior team. With the Super Falcons, she lifted the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in 2018 and again in 2024, where she also claimed the Player of the Tournament award.
She was the competition’s top scorer in 2022 and played a key role at both the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the 2024 Paris Olympics. Now captain of the national team, Ajibade has earned more than 30 caps, underlining her status as one of Nigeria’s most important players.
Ajibade’s move to the French capital is seen as a major boost for PSG’s attack and a significant moment for African women’s football, with the 25-year-old now set to test herself in Division 1 Féminine.
