(The Post News)- Eyewitness News (EWN) Associate Editor for Politics, Tshidi Madia, passed away following a short illness. She died in hospital on Wednesday morning.
Her passing confrimed by family spokesperson Matlatse Mahlase in a statement saying, “The media family announces with deep sadness of the passing of their beloved daughter and sister, Tshidi Madia. Tsidi passed away this morning after a short illness and hospitalisation.”
Mahlase descride Tshidi as a dedicated journalist who gave her heart to story telling. “A respected journalist, she loved South Africa deeply and devoted her career to telling its stories. She brought joy and love to all who knew her and her memory will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends,” she said.
Tribute have already started ouring from her collegues, politicians and the public, with many remembering her as a powerful voice who wasn’t afraid to ask questions. In a statement, EWN Editor-in-Chief Nisa Allie described Tshidi Madia as “the jewel in EWN’s crown,” a dynamic force who elevated the standard of political journalism in South Africa.
Panyaza Lesufi pays tribute to Tshidi Madia’s passing
In a statement issued by the Gauteng Provincial Government, Premier Panyaza Lesufi expressed his deep shock and sadness at the passing of esteemed journalist and EWN Associate Editor for Politics, Tshidi Madia.
According to Premier Lesufi, Madia was one of South Africa’s most respected political journalists who was celebrated for her integrity, passion for truth, fearless commitment to holding power to account and deep love for her country.
“Tshidi was not only a journalist of exceptional calibre, but also a voice of reason and fairness. Her fearless pursuit of accountability enriched the country’s democratic discourse. Her passing is a devastating loss to the media fraternity, our democracy, and to all South Africans who relied on her sharp analysis and unwavering commitment to the truth,” said Premier Lesufi.
