(The Post News)– Tonight, Kaizer Chiefs will host Mamelodi Sundowns at the FNB Stadium in Gauteng. The match will kick off at 19h30 for round four of the Betway Premiership Soccer League (PSL). FNB will be packed to its maximum capacity, selling out 60,000 tickets.
Chiefs started the 2025/26 season on a good foot with nine points from all three games played. Amakhosi has performed well thus far under the leadership of the assistant coach, Cedric Kaze, and Khalil Ben Youssef.
They were led by the assistant coaches while Naredinne Nabi was home due to a family responsibility. It was reported that Nabi had to go home due to his wife being involved in a car accident.
Today’s clash between Masandawana will mark the first match for Nabi as he is back on duty. Both the clubs are looking at this game with refreshed energy.
Meanwhile, Sundowns had a rough start to the season with only two wins and one draw from the three matches played, under the leadership of Coach Miguel Cardoso. Following an MTN8 exit, Sundowns has had enough time to prepare for the game.
The likes of Khuliso Mudau were spotted in training in preparation for this Wednesday’s game against the Phefeni Glamour boys. Sundowns has had their usual squad besides Mudua and the embattled Lucas Ribeiro Costa.
The fourth round of the PSL will determine their performance for the season after being knocked out of the MTN8 on penalties last weekend by Orlando Pirates. However, it still has its last season’s squad besides the above-mentioned and Temba Zwane, who is injured.
Teboho Mokoena, Marcello Allende, Peter Shalulile, Thapelo Morena, Aubrey Modiba, Keanu Cupido, and Ronwen Williams are the sure-fit players. Arthur Sales and Tashreeq Matthews are also part of the squad with a revived spirit as they get powerful match after match.
Chiefs is also set with its players on top form with the last 100% winning record. Mduduzi Shabalala, Thabo Cele, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, Thabiso Monyane, Inacio Miguel, and Brandon Peterson are the in-form players joined by teammates.
Beating Stellenbosch FC 2-nil, Polokwane City 1-0, and Richards Bay 1-0 has given Amakhosi determination and an eye for the league. Last season they ended out of the top 8; currently they are in the top four.
However, Masandawana drew with Chippa United 1-1, beat Amazulu 2-nil, and also beat Magesi FC 2-0. Sundowns might have started on the wrong foot, but game after game they gained momentum.
As it stands, all roads lead to the home stadium of “Abafana bo xolo no thando (Chiefs)” at FNB Stadium. Where Chiefs coach is back to work and Sundowns saw Mudau back to training.
What is left is the ground to suffer in order for one team to take the whole three points, or they split points for a point each. The football fraternity is eager to find out what the two clubs bear at the end of the game.
Fans of Kaizer Chiefs are eyeing a win but are skeptical of their head coach, as their assistants did a good job 100%. Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns fans are still bleeding from the weekend loss at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Atteridgeville.
Coach Cardoso is facing pressure from the dent he got from Attredgeville last weekend against the Pirates. Sundowns fans are not happy and have been singing that Cardoso must leave the club.
Although they are bitter losers, the Sundowns coach managed to take the club to CAF Champions runner-up. Took the club to play at the 2025 Club World Cup (CWC) in America during football break, while most clubs were resting.
According to the issue of losses, Cardoso is facing football politics from his squad, with a few players not happy. Ribeiro wants out, Mudau also wants out, and Kutlwano Letlhaku also wants out; all this affects the management and the spirit of players.
