(The Post News)– Former African National Congress (ANC) spokesperson Pule Mabe reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the party despite facing serious legal challenges.
Mabe faces corruption charges from last year, which forced him to step aside from his role on the ANC’s National Executive Committee (NEC). Nevertheless, he emphasized that these allegations will not deter his dedication to the party. Speaking to reporters outside the Palm Ridge Specialized Commercial Crime Unit after a brief court appearance, he maintained a confident and resolute stance.
Mabe Faces Fraud Case and Court Proceedings
To begin with, the court charged Mabe, his spouse, and five other individuals with fraud, corruption, and breaching the Public Finance Management Act. The charges are connected to a R27 million tender fraud involving the company Enviro Mobi. Consequently, the court postponed the matter to February 18 of the coming year, giving Mabe and the co-accused time to review the submitted presentations.
Mabe has, however, stressed that facing these charges has not weakened his ties to the ANC. “I have renewed my membership, and I fully commit to the ANC. I am committed to the ANC for life. My loyalty is to the party, not just its leaders. If elections were held tomorrow, I would vote for the ANC,” he said.
Meanwhile, observers have noted that his public declaration comes at a time when the party is under intense scrutiny over allegations of corruption and mismanagement at various levels. According to analysts, high-profile figures like him reaffirming their loyalty may help reassure the party’s base ahead of upcoming political contests.
Mabe Declares Loyalty to the ANC Amid Controversy
Moving forward, Mabe’s legal troubles trace back to the procurement of services from Enviro Mobi, a company involved in providing sanitation and environmental services. Authorities allege that irregularities in tender processes and payments contributed to the alleged R27 million fraud.
While he and the co-accused deny wrongdoing, the charges underscore ongoing concerns about transparency and accountability within both government and party structures.
Despite the gravity of the accusations, he chose to focus on his political allegiance rather than the legal cloud hanging over him. Moreover, he framed his commitment as enduring and principled, pointing to a distinction between loyalty to the ANC as an institution and support for any individual leader. “My loyalty is to the ANC as a movement and as a party committed to the people,” he said.
At the same time, legal experts note that postponements in high-profile corruption cases are common in South Africa, allowing both prosecution and defense to prepare thoroughly. The February hearing is expected to bring more clarity on the evidence against him and his co-accused.
Until then, the case remains one of several that illustrate the ongoing challenges facing political leaders like him who are accused of financial misconduct.
