(The Post News)- Alexander Isak, the Swedish striker, has arrived in Liverpool to undergo medical screening ahead of a sensational £125 million switch from Newcastle.
This switch with the blockbuster move is set to be sealed on deadline day. After a whirlwind night of negotiations on Sunday, both clubs reached an agreement, paving the way for Isak to sign a six-year deal. Newcastle sources reveal the final package could be worth up to £130 million, with the Magpies’ Saudi-backed owners giving the green light for the record-breaking sale.
Newcastle had been open to selling Isak throughout the summer, especially after the striker informed them at the end of last season that he wanted to move on. Despite this, the club held firm until their conditions were met: a suitable offer from Liverpool and adequate replacements lined up, as they outlined in a statement two weeks ago.
Alexander Isak’s Career in Newcastle
The Magpies still hoped to convince Isak to remain at St. James’ Park, even sending a senior ownership group to his home last Monday for a final attempt to change his mind. But after that meeting, the club accepted his departure was inevitable.
Alexander Isak left no room for doubt when he told Newcastle co-owner Jamie Reuben and senior PIF figures that he had no intention of backing down from his stance; he would remain on strike until the club sanctioned his departure.
While tensions rose publicly, negotiations were quietly unfolding behind the scenes. Talks had been ongoing throughout the week, with Isak’s agent, Vlado Lemic, working tirelessly to facilitate his client’s exit. After several days of intense backchannel discussions, both clubs finally agreed on a deal late Sunday evening, clearing the path for the Swedish forward to complete his long-anticipated move to Liverpool.
With Isak on his way out, Newcastle moved quickly to reinforce their attacking options. The Magpies completed the signing of German striker Nick Woltemade in a club-record £69 million deal, a clear statement of intent heading into the new season. They’re also keeping a close eye on Brentford forward Yoane Wissa as a potential addition, though the London club’s £65 million asking price is currently proving a major obstacle.
