(The Post News)– The Springboks have called on one of their most trusted players, Faf de Klerk, as they prepare for the next leg of the Castle Lager Rugby Championship. Experienced scrum half Faf will link up with the squad in New Zealand, where South Africa will face the All Blacks in Auckland and Wellington.
Faf Adds Extra Depth in Boks Squad
At 33 years old, Faf adds extra depth in a crucial position and becomes the fourth scrum half in the touring group alongside Grant Williams, Cobus Reinach, and Morne van den Berg. The return is significant given his role in back-to-back World Cup triumphs, though injuries have limited his game time since last year’s Paris final against the same All Blacks team.
This season, he has featured only twice for the Boks, both appearances coming from the bench against Italy and Georgia. His arrival takes the squad up to 36 players, especially important after hooker Bongi Mbonambi stayed behind in South Africa earlier this week for family reasons.
The Boks will resume their rivalry with New Zealand at Eden Park on Saturday, 6 September, before moving on to Wellington a week later, where the Sky Stadium will host another chapter of this iconic battle.
