(The Post News) – After months of speculation over who would succeed Anna Wintour as Vogue editor-in-chief, it has officially been announced that the current editor of Vogue.com, Chloe Malle, will be taking the reins.
After years of shaping Vogue’s social pages, the 39-year-old fashion editor and co-host of “The Run-Through with Vogue” podcast will be stepping up to the front pages after Wintour’s 40-year reign. Confident in her choice, Wintour said that Chloe has consistently shown she can honor Vogue’s storied legacy while pushing the magazine forward into new territory. She added, “I am so excited to continue working with her, as her mentor but also as her student, while she leads us and our audiences where we’ve never been before.“
Here are some things to know about the new head of editorial content at Vogue US:
A Vogue Insider Becoming Wintour’s Successor
Chloe Malle has been with Vogue for years, most recently serving as editor of Vogue.com. She began her career at the magazine in 2011 as a social editor, covering weddings and high-profile events. Interestingly, Malle once admitted she had aspired to be “a writer more than an editor” and even interned at the New York Observer covering real estate. “I was hesitant when I was interviewing, because fashion is not one of my main interests in life,” she recalled. “But I was so seduced by the Vogue machine that I couldn’t resist.”
From contributing editor to running Vogue.com, Malle steadily built her career at the publication. Now, as she takes on the top job, she says, “Vogue has already shaped who I am; now I’m excited at the prospect of shaping Vogue.” She also emphasized her excitement about continuing to learn from Wintour, who will remain Condé Nast’s global chief content officer and Vogue’s global editorial director.
Hollywood Roots
Malle is the daughter of acclaimed actress Candice Bergen—well known for roles in Murphy Brown, Miss Congeniality, and even as a fictional Vogue editor in Sex and the City. Her father, Louis Malle, was an influential French filmmaker, nominated for three Academy Awards before his passing in 1995.
Following in Wintour’s Footsteps
In a coincidental parallel, both women rose to the role of top editor in their late 30s. Wintour assumed the position at 37, while Malle steps in at 39. Like Wintour’s arrival in 1988, Malle’s leadership signals a new chapter—one where Vogue must merge its iconic fashion authority with the fast-paced world of social media and digital culture.
A Podcaster Bridging Fashion and Social Media
In addition to her editorial work, Malle co-hosts “The Run-Through with Vogue” with Chioma, the head of editorial content for British Vogue, Chioma Nnadi. The first of its kind for the magazine, the fashion team gets together to discuss fashion trends and the inner workings of the industry.
What To Expect
Malle will step into the role in time for New York Fashion Week, taking place September 11–16. Fashion lovers are excited to see how she will keep Vogue’s traditions alive while steering the company into a new era.
