(The Post News)- The Mangaung African Cultural Festival (Macufe) is back in Bloemfontein. After a two-year break, the iconic festival is set to return from September 3rd to 7th, promising a vibrant celebration of music, art, and culture.
According to the Free State Sport, Arts, Culture, and Recreation Department, an impressive 80% of the festival’s lineup will feature artists from the Free State Province, a significant effort to highlight the local creative community.
Macufe 2025 will feature an eclectic mix of performances across various genres, including music, dance, theater, film, poetry, and comedy. Attendees can look forward to thrilling performances by some of South Africa’s most beloved artists. Headlining the festival are powerhouse names like Makhadzi, Vusi Nova, Thandiswa Mazwai, Judith Sephuma, and DJ Kwesta, to name a few.
In addition to the national superstars, Macufe will showcase the diversity and richness of the Free State’s creative scene with performances from local talents such as Serame Sediti, Sannere, and Ayanda Ntanzi, among others. The festival promises something for everyone, with a variety of events catering to different tastes and preferences.
MEC Sifuba Confirms Return of MACUFE
MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture, and Recreation, Ntombizanele Sifuba, called on residents to be a part of the festivities. “We continue to call upon the patrons of MACUFE to come in large numbers to celebrate our cultural heritage through this epic festival. As we enter the important month during which we celebrate our heritage as a country, let us do so in style through MACUFE, which is the embodiment of our cultural heritage,” Sifuba said.
Macufe will take place in multiple venues, including the scenic Rose Gardens for a relaxed, picnic-style atmosphere, and the Bloemfontein Civic Theatre, PACOFS, and Wesleyan Church for more formal performances. From comedy to theater to live music, the festival’s artistic program is designed to engage and entertain visitors from all walks of life.
Macufe 2025 has officially begun, and with it comes a renewed sense of excitement, pride, and anticipation. The countdown is on, and the City of Roses is ready to show the world just what it means to celebrate African culture in all its forms.
