(The Post News) -Russian President Vladimir Putin stated on Wednesday that he is willing to hold talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, provided Zelensky is prepared to come to Moscow. He added that given the high stakes, it remains uncertain whether the meeting would have any value.
After weeks of Zelensky pushing for negotiations, with United States President Donald Trump acting as a potential mediator, Putin has signaled readiness to engage with his opposing leader. He insisted that he has been open to dialogue but reiterated the Kremlin-established stance that the high-stakes nature of this meeting requires thorough preparation.
At the end of his China visit for the Tianjin SCO Summit and Beijing’s World War Two 80th anniversary parade, Putin said, “As for a meeting with Zelensky, I have never ruled out the possibility of such a meeting. But is there any point? Let’s see.”
Putin-Zelensky High-Stakes Meeting
The topics for the highly anticipated talks, should they take place, would likely cover territorial disputes, security guarantees, and ongoing military actions in eastern Ukraine, including recent events in Dnipropetrovsk. For now, Putin said in his view, Ukraine should focus on holding a referendum on territorial matters, lifting martial law, and conducting national elections.
