(The Post News) – During a press conference in the Oval Office on Tuesday, September 2, U.S. President Donald Trump dismissed recent failing health claims about him, calling the speculation “fake news.”
Failing health claims and death claims about the oldest U.S. president intensified in recent weeks, after Trump had not been seen publicly for multiple days in a row. His second-oldest son, Eric Trump, attempted to quell the rumors online by reposting his father’s message, saying, “I’ve never felt better in my life,” but the speculation continued.
This is not the first time health claims have plagued the presidency. Similar speculation arose during Joe Biden’s presidency and again earlier this year regarding Trump himself. In early July, discoloration and swelling were noticed on Trump’s right hand, sparking a wave of social media speculation about his well-being over the Labor Day weekend.
Trump Blames Media for Spreading Fake Health Claims
When a reporter jokingly asked if he was aware of these health rumors, Trump replied, “I didn’t see that.” He added, “I knew they were saying, like, ‘Is he okay? How’s he feeling?’ … I had heard that, but I didn’t hear that to that extent.” He slammed the speculation as “fake news” and blamed the media for circulating the rumors.
White House physician Sean Barbarella stated in July that Trump had been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a “benign and common condition, particularly in individuals over the age of 70.” Aside from that, she confirmed that the president is in “excellent health.”
