The award-winning duo recently performed at the Scorpion Kings Live with Friends concert at Loftus Stadium, delivering an electrifying show that united all generations. Fans sang, danced, and celebrated a rich musical legacy that continues to evolve.
Mafikizolo began their journey in 1997 as a trio with Tebogo Madingoane. Their 2000 hit “Lotto” launched them to stardom. Hits like “Kwela” introduced a fresh blend of kwaito and kwela, while the 2003 classic “Emlanjeni” showcased their range and romantic storytelling. “Ndihamba Nawe” became a wedding anthem across Africa. This track highlighted Mafikizolo’s ability to connect cultures through music.
She doesn’t just create music; they make bold fashion statements. They embrace vibrant colours, local fabrics, and South African designers. Their fashion choices, combined with authentic sounds, reflect cultural pride and inspire younger generations to celebrate African heritage with style.

In 2009, Mafikizolo took a break for solo projects. They returned in 2013 with the album Reunited, featuring mega-hits like “Khona” and “Happiness.” That comeback album won eight South African Music Awards and three Metro FM Music Awards, cementing their legendary status.
One of Mafikizolo’s greatest achievements is leading Africa’s music renaissance. Their 2014 collaboration with Davido, “Tchelete (Goodlife),” earned millions of views and multiple nominations. They later released Mafikizolo 20, an album packed with collaborations, proving their versatility and dominance across the continent. “Love Potion,” produced by DJ Maphorisa, fused Afrobeats with their unique sound, keeping them relevant and loved by fans from Jozi to Lagos.
With performances in over 33 countries, Mafikizolo stands as a cultural ambassador for South Africa. They unite people through music and promote African identity worldwide. In 2022, they released iDwala, their 12th album, which means “boulder” or “rock of ages.” The album reflects resilience and longevity in a competitive industry.
According to Theo Kgosinkwe, iDwala symbolizes their strength. “We have stood the test of time,” he said. Nhlanhla Mafu added, “It’s grace.
