(The Post News) – In a growing alliance, President Kim Jong Un has vowed that the North Korean military will “fully support” Russia’s army in their war against Ukraine. Signaling a budding bromance, local news reported Thursday that Putin described ties between Pyongyang and Moscow as “special,” while Kim Jong Un framed his pledge as a “fraternal duty.”
The nuclear-armed leaders met for the first time on Wednesday in Beijing, despite having signed an arms deal earlier this year. North Korea has reportedly supplied Russia with up to nine million rounds of artillery, 1000 combat soldiers, and other weapons to help them in their war against Ukraine. While Moscow reciprocated by providing North Korea with battlefield intelligence, including air defense equipment to help in their war against South Korea.
The two leaders attended an event hosted by Chinese President Xi Jinping, celebrating China’s 80-year anniversary victory with a military parade commemorating Japan’s formal surrender in World War Two.
In the event hosted by Chinese President Xi Jinping to celebrate China’s 80th anniversary victory against Japan, it is reported that the pair hit it off as they spoke candidly on “important international and regional issues.” Putin commended North Korean troops fighting alongside Russia and said the two countries’ relations are “special ones of trust, friendship, and alliance.”
North Korea to Send More Troops
To continue fostering its alliance with Russia, North Korea is expected to deploy an additional 6,000 troops to support Moscow. Meanwhile, Ukraine has already received security guarantees from the United States, which include intelligence assistance and air support. Further security assurances from the European Union are set to be announced at the “Coalition of the Willing” summit in Paris this Thursday afternoon.
