(The Post News)– Hugo Broos wants to end his coaching career on the ultimate high. He dreams of returning to the FIFA World Cup—exactly 40 years after playing in Mexico. He represented Belgium in 1986 when Mexico hosted the tournament. Belgium finished fourth after a dramatic 4-2 loss to France.
After retiring, Broos made history as a coach. He won AFCON 2017 with Cameroon and recently led Bafana Bafana to third place in Africa. “This is my last job as a coach,” he said. “I want to coach at the World Cup, 40 years after playing there.” He believes it would be the perfect ending to an incredible career.
South Africa leads Group C with 13 points, five ahead of Rwanda. He knows the team must win the remaining four matches. Despite a FIFA case involving Teboho Mokoena, Broos stays calm. “We need to win tomorrow. I believe in my players,” he said.
Why This Matters for Broos and Bafana
A 40-year career milestone.
Possible World Cup return in Mexico.
Redemption for Bafana on the global stage.
Motivation for a historic qualification.
A perfect final chapter for Broos.
The coach remains confident. “I see a motivated group. They know the World Cup is within reach. We are ready,” he said.
