(The Post News) – South Africa’s Bafana Bafana strengthened their bid for a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a commanding 3-0 victory over Lesotho at the Free State Stadium on Friday.
Goals from Mohau Nkota, Lyle Foster, and Oswin Appollis gave Bafana all three points. Pushing them to 16 points in Group C, five clear of nearest rivals Rwanda. The win keeps Bafana in pole position as the qualifying campaign reaches its decisive stage and sets up a crucial clash with Nigeria.
Nkota struck early to calm home nerves, finishing off a neat move that cut through Lesotho’s defense. Foster added the second with a composed effort before halftime, while substitute Appollis sealed the scoreline late in the second half.
Broos praised his side’s professionalism: “We knew this was a game we had to win, and the players delivered. Now we must prepare for Nigeria, which will be a different kind of test,” the Belgian coach said after the match.
The result delighted the Bloemfontein crowd, who turned out in large numbers to back their team. On social media, fans celebrated the performance, many hailing the side’s attacking intent and renewed confidence. Victory over Lesotho means Bafana Bafana are edging closer to their first World Cup appearance since 2010, when they hosted the tournament. With momentum on their side, the nation dares to dream again.
