(The Post News) – On Friday, U.S. President Donald Trump snubbed the leaders of Russia and India, wishing them well while distancing himself after their attendance at Chinese President Xi Jinping’s summit and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting. He also criticized Russia’s participation in China’s 80th anniversary military parade.
Sharing a photo of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian PM Narendra Modi at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit, Trump wrote on social media, “Looks like we’ve lost India and Russia to deepest, darkest China.” officially distancing the United States from the pair.
President Xi Summit, Military Parade and Trump Suspicions
On August 28 Chinese President Xi welcomed Putin, Modi, among twenty other leaders to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin. The SCO was originally established by China, which happens to be Trump’s longstanding opposition, as a security alliance to limit U.S. influence in Central Asia.
At the summit, Xi, Putin, and Modi were photographed standing side by side, reportedly discussing relations between their countries, all of which currently face tensions with the Trump administration. Days later, Putin attended China’s 80th anniversary military parade.
These appearances, combined with Putin’s growing ties to North Korea, fueled Trump’s suspicion that Russia might be acting against U.S. interests. Responding to the allegation after the Beijing parade, a Russian official clarified that Putin was not conspiring with China against the United States and that none of the three leaders had such intentions.
Meanwhile, India faces the threat of up to 50% tariffs from the U.S. over its purchases of Russian oil. Russia, on the other hand, faces sanctions from both the U.S. and the EU as part of efforts to pressure a ceasefire in the ongoing war in Ukraine.
