(The Post News) – South African-born restaurant Tashas has signed a R480 million (AED 100 million) deal to franchise further in the United Arab Emirates.
The joint venture with UAE property developer Arada will see the group open at least 10 new restaurants across Sharjah, Al Ain, Ras Al Khaimah, and Nad Al Sheba neighbourhoods over the next two years. While Tasha’s already operates successful outlets in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, BusinessTech reports, the residential locations were chosen to tap into growing demand for premium, community-focused dining in cities.
The Group CEO of Arada, Ahmed Alkhoshaibi, said the expansion represents more than portfolio growth; it underscores Arada’s focus on creating connected, vibrant communities. He added that Arada properties value lifestyle offerings, perfectly aligning with Tasha’s wellness, hospitality, and a strong community focus.
Founder and CEO Natasha Sideris agrees on the alignment of their values and long-term vision. Sideris said, “We aim to deliver dining experiences that combine beautiful food, thoughtfully designed environments and a high standard of service.”.
Sideris noted that international Tashas locations, including those in the UAE, strive to maintain the brand’s South African roots, typically staffing around 50% South African employees, a practice the group will continue with the upcoming openings.
The expansion will kick off in December with a Tashas café opening at Arada’s Aljada mixed-use community in Sharjah.
This deal follows a broader trend of South African businesses attracting global investment. In August, for instance, House of One became the first South African brand to collaborate with international online retail giant Shein.
