(The Post News)- Police in the Cape Winelands District have arrested seven foreign nationals after uncovering an illegal alcohol manufacturing facility in Klapmuts.
Police spokesperson Wesley Twigg confirmed that five men and two women were taken into custody after officers followed up on a tip-off. “The members visited the premises on the R44 in Klapmuts and found the facility with alcohol manufacturing equipment inside the building,” Twigg said.
Somali Nationals Nabbed
In continuation, Twigg added that “seven Somalian nationals, five males aged between 25 and 43 and two females, both 20, were arrested for contravention of the Liquor Act.”
According to Twigg, officers also seized large quantities of equipment and materials used in the operation. “The equipment that was confiscated is containers containing ethanol, ten big white 1,000-liter containers, empty bottles, and machines,” he explained.
Reports note that once charged, the suspects are due to appear in the Paarl Magistrate’s Court on the mentioned charges. Police say investigations into the illegal operation are continuing.
