(The Post News) – US President Donald Trump took to his social platform to question why Russian drones violated Poland’s airspace, where three were ultimately shot down.
On September 10, Trump posted on the Truth Social platform, “What’s with Russia violating Poland’s airspace with drones? Here we go!” The post followed fears of a looming World War 3 after Poland announced that, in an unprecedented event, three Russian drones were shot down after 19 violations of its airspace while targeting Ukraine.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk issued the announcement, warning that the incident could lead to the first “open conflict since World War II.” Stressing concerns over Poland’s “territorial integrity, political independence, or security.” Tusk called an emergency meeting with NATO allies and temporarily shut down operations at major airports.
NATO and the EU Show Support to Poland, Drawing Battle Lines
Out of 32 member states, Poland became the first NATO country to shoot down Russian equipment during an airspace incursion. The move marked a major escalation between nuclear-armed Russia and the NATO-backed European Union member nation.
The attack comes as the EU, NATO, and the US continue mounting pressure on Moscow to end its conflict against Ukraine. The Russian Foreign Ministry denied targeting Poland and said that this is an agenda and “myth” used to slander Moscow while escalating the Ukrainian crisis.
Nonetheless, the defense ministry said it was “ready” to hold discussions with Poland over what it described as the alleged drone incursion. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, however, rejected that explanation, warning the strikes were “no accident” but an escalation. He urged the European allies not to let these invasions be a precedent.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz also condemned the act as reckless and a direct threat to civilian lives. The UK’s Defence Minister also condemned the attack, reaffirming that as a NATO ally, the UK is willing to stand with Poland against Russia.
Recently, Russia has also been seen getting closer to North Korean President Kim Jong-un, who expressed that he is willing to support Russia’s interests before this drone incident. It is yet to be seen if that means standing with Russia in this potential upcoming conflict.
In the latest development of these unfolding events, the White House confirmed that President Trump would be calling Polish President Karol Nawrocki to discuss Russia’s latest provocation.
