(The Post News) -After a year away, beloved kitchenware brand Tupperware has officially re-entered the South African market under its new brand name, TuppAfrica.
The rebranding follows Tupperware’s exit from South Africa after the American company filed for Chapter 8 bankruptcy in September 2024. Declining sales forced the brand to downsize operations to fewer than ten countries, with South Africa among those excluded.
For more than six decades, Tupperware was a staple in South African households, so much so that its name became synonymous with food storage containers. Now, the brand has returned under new management and a new name, TuppAfrica, through a licensing agreement signed by entrepreneur Ahmed Bull via Umazintle.
While the containers will not be manufactured locally, Bull confirmed, the brand will revive its signature direct sales approach based on word-of-mouth reselling and distribution. At its peak, he noted, more than 100,000 people were involved in Tupperware’s distribution network in South Africa.
For its first few months of operation, TuppAfrica has reportedly invested more than R26 million into South African communities, including R6 million in incentives for resellers. The brand’s new catalogue will feature multifunctional, eco-conscious kitchenware designed to meet modern household needs.
Bull said, “Whether you’ve been a long-time fan or are discovering the brand for the first time, there will be something exciting waiting for you in the coming months.”
