(The Post News)- The South African Police Service (SAPS) attended a crime scene in Centurion, Pretoria, after four house robbery suspects were shot and killed during a gun battle with police on Thursday, 11 September 2025.
Gauteng police spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili confirmed the incident, stating that the house robbery suspects had been linked to a string of violent crimes across Gauteng. Muridili said that pathologists were preparing to remove the suspects’ remains from the scene near the N14 freeway. He also mentioned that the suspects were linked to several house robberies in the area and some parts of Johannesburg.
House Robbery: Suspects Open Fire on the Police
According to police, members of the Gauteng Highway Patrol, working with private security officials, operationalized intelligence from Crime Intelligence about a group of suspects terrorizing suburbs in Tshwane South and Johannesburg North. “At about 15:00 today, the members spotted a vehicle matching the description of the suspects’ getaway car on the R55 in Centurion and tried to stop it. The perpetrators sped off, and a chase ensued,” said Muridili.
The house robbery suspects allegedly opened fire on police after taking the N14 on-ramp towards Pretoria. Officers returned fire, fatally shooting all four occupants of the vehicle. “Upon searching the vehicle, the police found three handguns and ammunition, as well as housebreaking implements,” Muridili confirmed.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the white Hyundai sedan used by the suspects was fitted with false registration plates and a fraudulent license disc. Police have already linked the group to at least 18 house robberies across Gauteng.
