Powerful Committee Probing Mkhwanazi’s Allegations
(The Post News) – Committee Probing Mkhwanazi’s Allegations is firmly committed to meeting Parliament’s October 31 deadline despite several delays, according to Chairperson Molapi Soviet Lekganyane. The Ad Hoc Committee, tasked with investigating serious claims made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lt. General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, remains resolute in ensuring accountability and transparency in the process.
Lekganyane emphasized that the Committee Probing Mkhwanazi’s Allegations will proceed with Mkhwanazi as its first witness, confirming that his availability begins on September 22, following his scheduled appearance at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
Committee Probing Mkhwanazi’s Allegations Sets Clear Priorities
Speaking during a media briefing, Lekganyane admitted that formulating the terms of reference took longer than anticipated, which delayed witness engagement. “Remember, in our case, we spent about two or three meetings discussing the terms of reference. At that time, it was not possible to contact witnesses before adopting the terms of reference because it is the guiding document for the committee,” said Lekganyane.
Despite these setbacks, Lekganyane stressed that the Committee Probing Mkhwanazi’s Allegations will not compromise its mandate and has vowed to use all legal means available, including a subpoena, should Mkhwanazi refuse to appear.
Deadline Pressure and Accountability
Parliament’s October 31 deadline is a key milestone. Lekganyane assured the public that the committee remains committed to delivering a comprehensive and credible report on time. This investigation is crucial as it addresses allegations that could have far-reaching implications for the policing environment in KwaZulu-Natal.
The Committee Probing Mkhwanazi’s Allegations also serves as a reminder of Parliament’s constitutional duty to uphold oversight and promote accountability within law enforcement agencies.
Transparency and Public Interest
The outcome of this investigation is expected to inform future policy directions on how police misconduct allegations are handled. Citizens and civil society organizations are encouraged to follow developments closely, as this inquiry directly impacts public trust in policing institutions.
