(The Post News) – Prince Harry is set to use his unexpected visit to Ukraine to outline new plans to support wounded soldiers and civilians in the war-torn country. Surprising the public, the Duke of Sussex arrived in Kyiv on Friday morning after spending four days in the United Kingdom.
The Duke of Sussex arrived in Kyiv by train and was welcomed by Olha Rudnieva, co-founder of the Superhumans rehabilitation program. Alongside his Invictus Games Foundation team members, the former British Army officer veteran said that they are committed to doing “everything possible” to help the thousands of injured service members and civilians affected by the conflict. This includes creating an outline to rehabilitate those with life-changing injuries.
Ties Between Invictus Games and the Superhumans Rehabilitation Center
Founded in 2014 by Prince Harry, the Invictus Games is a veteran-focused Paralympic sports event designed to provide mental and physical recovery and physical support. Prior to the war, he partook in the games, where Harry spoke of the world’s support for Ukraine.
Similarly, Superhumans supports the rehabilitation of Ukrainian war-injured individuals, veterans and civilians alike, by providing prosthetic limbs and recovery programs. Harry had visited a center in Lviv back in April. His stance and belief is, “We cannot stop the war, but what we can do is do everything we can to help the recovery process.”
The Sussex-founded Archewell Foundation provided $500,000 (£369,000) on Wednesday to assist in the recovery of wounded children in Ukraine and Gaza.
Harry’s Family Relations
Harry has said that while the news may have been a shock to the public, he did get full support from the UK government and his wife, Meghan Markle. Mirror reports that one person who is astonished and fuming is his older brother, who is said to be “fuming,” according to palace officials. This is because, as a supporter of Ukraine, he had been asking to go but had been denied.
It had been speculated that the brothers’ relationship is not at its best at the moment. Although Harry has been in Ukraine for a week, he and William have not met due to the latter’s busy schedule. However, the visit did allow Harry to reconnect with his father, King Charles, marking their first meeting in 19 months and giving them an opportunity to mend their relationship.
