(The Post News)– In a press conference, authorities revealed the identity of 22-year-old Tyler Robinson as the suspect in custody for the murder of prominent conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
On Friday morning, former President Donald Trump confirmed that a suspect had been apprehended after being handed over to police by his father. Later, Utah Governor Spencer Cox confirmed the identity of the suspect, stating that Robinson had been turned in by a family friend, who said he admitted to committing the crime. Cox began the conference by saying, “We got him.”
According to Cox, the killing appeared politically motivated, as Robinson’s family said he had become more involved in politics. A family member said Robinson had once remarked, “Kirk was full of hate and spreading hate.” Investigators also noted inscriptions on the bullets, including “Hey fascists! Catch,” “If you read this, you are gay LMAO,” and “Bella Ciao.”
Robinson Messaged Roommate About Riffle Hiding Spot
In the investigation, police also revealed that Robinson had messaged his roommate on Discord discussing where he would place and conceal the rifle and his change of clothes. One of the messages associated with his identity said, “a need to retrieve a rifle from a drop point, leaving the rifle in a bush,” a spec that matched where the Mauser Model 98 30-06 rifle was found.
FBI Director Kash Patel thanked President Trump for his support, which enabled the team to locate the suspect just two days after Kirk’s fatal shooting at Utah Valley State University. The FBI had released images of the suspect and a $100,000 reward prior to his arrest, along with video confirming the shot was fired from 200 yards away.
Little new personal information has been revealed about Robinson, aside from the fact that he drove a Dodge Challenger to the scene and changed clothes after the shooting. Authorities confirmed that he had no prior criminal record.
