(The Post News)-Heidedal police have launched an investigation after a gruesome discovery was made on Friday, 12 September 2025, when a decapitated body was found floating inside a dilapidated building near a former nightclub.
According to authorities, the discovery was made at approximately 15:00pm by two children playing near the abandoned building. The children spotted what appeared to be a human body submerged in the flooded basement and immediately alerted nearby adults, who contacted the police.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Mahlomola Kareli reported, “Due to the difficult conditions, the Bloemfontein Diving and Rescue Unit was dispatched to the scene to assist in recovering the remains.”The body was discovered to be in a state of decomposition, consisting only of a torso and legs.”
Police confirmed that the deceased was wearing multicolored leggings and a single Soviet sneaker on her left foot. Efforts are now underway to drain the water from the building in hopes of locating the missing upper part of the body. An inquest docket has been opened, and a thorough investigation is ongoing. Authorities have appealed to the public to assist in identifying the victim.
“Heidedal police are urging anyone with information that could help in identifying the deceased to contact Captain Wilson at 082 553 6307 or provide information anonymously via the Crime Stop hotline at 08600 10111 or through the MySAPS App,” Kareli said.
