(The Post News) -Iran’s Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, urged Muslim governments on Saturday to take practical steps in the face of Israel’s aggression by setting up a collective operations room. He spoke just hours before Islamic and Arab leaders gathered in Doha for an emergency summit on Israel’s recent bombing of Qatar.
Larijani censured Islamic governments for delivering “speeches without action,” warning that empty conferences will only embolden Israel. “An Organization of Islamic Cooperation conference that is filled with rhetoric and does not have any practical outcome is like issuing a green light to the Zionist regime for further aggression,” he tweeted in Arabic on his X account.
He went on: “At least open a joint operations room against the madness of this entity. Just such a decision would upset its slavers and force them to back off on the pretext of ‘world peace.’
Israel Strikes on Doha Fuel Tensions
Israeli fighter jets targeted Hamas leaders in Doha on September 9, killing five members of the Palestinian movement, including the son of its senior leader Khalil al-Hayya. The strike also killed a Qatari security officer and a few civilians. Hamas later stated that its senior negotiators are unharmed.
Qatari officials decried the attack as a “cowardly dagger thrust” into their country, noting that the bombing targeted Hamas leaders who had gathered to talk about an American-brokered ceasefire proposal for Gaza. The bombing marked the first time Israel has attacked Hamas leaders on Qatari soil, and it was widely condemned across the region and around the globe.
Iranian officials reacted with heated rhetoric. President Masoud Pezeshkian called the assault “illegal, inhuman, and anti-peace” and said Israel’s actions dashed any expectations of diplomacy. “This terrorist attack shows the Zionist regime has no bounds for crime and terror,” he warned, urging the UN and OIC to act at once.
Chief of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi told Qatari Deputy Prime Minister Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani that Israel could not have carried out the attack without American coordination. He vowed Iran would stand by Doha “until the end.”
Ali Akbar Velayati, senior advisor to Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, condemned the strike as a “savage violation” of sovereignty. He urged the world to stop turning a blind eye to Israel’s actions.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated, “The only way out of the adventures of the Zionist regime is that the Muslim world must act in unison.” He described the strike as “heinous” and added that Iran was prepared to expand cooperation with Qatar.
Calls for Muslim Unity Grow Louder
Iran’s ambassador to the UN, Amir Saeed Iravani, told the Security Council that the bombing of Doha was an act of terrorism. He criticized the Council for not taking action and warned that silence would embolden Israel to commit further aggression.
Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf expressed condolences to Qatar and described the bombing as “state terrorism,” referring to the “anti-human rights” nature of Israel. Iran’s Armed Forces General Staff also released a statement blaming the United States for helping the attack. “The U.S., with direct and indirect aid, seeks to bring insecurity to the region and promote international terrorism,” it said.
Doha hosts the OIC and Arab League emergency summit on Sunday and Monday. Leaders are expected to discuss joint measures against Israel and in solidarity with Qatar following the deadly airstrikes. Larijani stressed that Muslim nations must go beyond making statements. “You did nothing for hungry and oppressed Palestinians. At least act to secure your own interests and block further destruction,” he warned.
Analysts say Larijani’s push for a joint operations headquarters signals Iran’s determination to transform diplomatic condemnation into strategic measures. Whether Arab and Islamic leaders respond with action or remain limited to verbal protests will determine the weight of the Doha summit.
