(The Post News) – Kenyan Judge of the Court of Appeal Justice Fred Ochieng has passed away in his home in Nairobi, The Judiciary Kenya confirmed on Wednesday.
In a statement, the Judiciary said Ochieng will be remembered as a towering figure in the development of Kenya’s commercial law jurisprudence and as a strong advocate for the promotion of alternative dispute resolution. He will be remembered for his commitment and his love for the judiciary.
The Law Society of Kenya said Justice Ochieng was the quintessential jurist and exemplified all qualities of judicial competence, independence, and integrity. The good judge was a real trailblazer for ADR and made monumental contributions to court-annexed mediation, which has been transformative in the efficient administration of justice.
He leaves behind a legacy of a true champion of justice, who discharged his functions with gentle poise and distinguished excellence. Ochieng will be missed dearly. “May his soul rest in peace,” the society added.
Justice Fredrick Ochieng Andago holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Nairobi and a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law. He served as a legal assistant at Kaplan & Stratton between 1982 and 1987 and then as a partner at Kaplan & Stratton Advocates in 1987. He served as a partner at the firm until 2003, when he was appointed Judge of the High Court.
He was admitted to the Roll of Advocates in 1983, and as a legal practitioner, he worked for a period of 20 years. At the time of his passing, he was serving as the Chairperson of the Court Annexed Mediation Taskforce.
